Distinguished guests,
It's a pleasure to announce the commencement of this significant event — the Conference on Media and Information Culture and Global Understanding — under the theme "Peace for All." I'm delighted to welcome this diverse assembly of experiences, all gathered here to foster communication and mutual understanding among peoples.
Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, met with Dr. Francesca Albanese, the United Nations Special Rapporteur on the human rights situation in the occupied Palestinian territories on 21 April at the headquarters of the General Secretariat. The discussion centred on the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, given the continued Israeli violations against the civilian population over the past several months.
Your Excellency Mr. Ian Borg,
Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Malta
Ladies and Gentlemen, Representatives of the Distinguished Council Members,
Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, welcomed Major General Patrick Gauchat, head of the United Nations Truce Supervision Organisation mission, at the General Secretariat headquarters on 17 April. The mission focuses on monitoring and ensuring the implementation of truce agreements between Israel and its neighbouring countries.
The League of Arab States has strongly denounced the relentless onslaught carried out by armed extremist settlers against the cities and towns of the West Bank. These attacks, often perpetrated under the tacit approval and protection of Israeli authorities, are exacerbating a pervasive state of impunity and continued oppression of Palestinian lives and properties.
Allow me, at the outset, to extend gratitude on behalf of His Excellency the Secretary-General of the League of Arab States to France for the generous invitation to participate in this significant conference.
The extraordinary session of the Council of the League of Arab States, convened at the level of permanent delegates, took place at the General Secretariat headquarters on 3 April.
Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, vehemently condemned Israel's killing in cold blood of seven relief workers from the World Central Kitchen organisation in an air strike on Deir Al-Balah in the central Gaza Strip.
Every diplomatic effort and political action undertaken in our meetings, various diplomatic corridors, and international forums to halt the brutal war in the Gaza Strip may not match the magnitude of the crime committed or the valour of the daily sacrifices made by Palestinians, shedding their blood and that of their children. However, it remains a necessary and imperative endeavour. This effort must persist and intensify until the six-month-long bloodshed comes to an end.
The League of Arab States condemned the Israeli attack on the Iranian Consulate building in Damascus on 1 April, viewing it as a blatant violation of the sovereignty of the Syrian Arab Republic and a serious breach of international law, particularly the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations concerning the respect for diplomatic premises.
