League of Arab States Council extraordinary session at the level of foreign ministers addressing political measures to stop the Israeli aggression and achieve security and peace

The extraordinary session of the Council of the League of Arab States convened at the level of foreign ministers on 11 October at the headquarters of the League of Arab States' General Secretariat. The session was presided over by His Excellency Mr. Nasser Bourita, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccan Expatriates, who currently serves as the President of the Council. The primary agenda was centred around addressing the Israeli aggression against the Gaza Strip and formulating Arab strategies to halt this aggression.
The ministerial-level Council meeting was convened at the request of both the State of Palestine and the Kingdom of Morocco. Discussions during the meeting revolved around the formulation of political strategies at both Arab and international levels to put an end to the Israeli aggression in Gaza. The goal was to establish a foundation for security and peace, adhering to international law and resolutions passed in accordance with international legitimacy.

On 8 March 2023, the ministerial-level Council of the League of Arab States assembled for its 159th ordinary session 159 at the General Secretariat headquarters in Cairo. Presided over by His Excellency Mr. Sameh Shoukry, the Minister of Foreign Affairs for the Arab Republic of Egypt, the Council welcomed the participation of His Excellency the Ministers of Foreign Affairs and heads of delegations from Member States. His Excellency Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary General of the League of Arab States, was in attendance.

At the outset of the session, the Council held a minute of silence to mourn the loss of the martyrs who lost their lives in the devastating earthquakes that struck Turkey and Syria.

During the session, the Council approved the agenda consisting of 9 items, which included an item for any new business. In addition, the Council reviewed and studied the submitted decisions, as well as draft decisions that were intended to be presented by the League Council at the level of permanent delegates.

The meeting of the League Council at the level of permanent delegates was held on 6 March 2023, presided over by His Excellency Ambassador Mohamed Mustafa Arfi, the Permanent Representative of the Arab Republic of Egypt to the League of Arab States. The League Council meeting was attended by permanent delegates and heads of delegations from member states, in addition to His Excellency Ambassador Hossam Zaki, the Assistant Secretary-General overseeing the Secretariat of the League Council Affairs.

On the sidelines of the Council meeting three ministerial committees were convened:

The sixth Arab Ministerial Committee tasked with monitoring Turkish interference in the internal affairs of Arab countries.

The 19th Quartet Arab Ministerial Committee, responsible for monitoring the developments of the crisis with Iran and devising strategies to address its interference in the internal affairs of Arab countries.

The sixth Arab Ministerial Committee, focused on the initiative to halt Israeli measures in the occupied city of Jerusalem.
