League marks Arab Music Day: Artistic legacy consolidating unity and identity

​The General Secretariat of the League of Arab States marks Arab Music Day, observed annually on 28 March, in accordance with Resolution 8372 of the Council of the League of Arab States at the Ministerial Level, issued on 6 March 2019. The commemoration coincides with the anniversary of the inaugural Arab Music Conference held on 28 March 1932—a milestone that continues to symbolise a renewed homage to the art of music and its profound influence in cultivating aesthetic sensibilities and nurturing creative talent across the Arab world.

League Secretary-General denounces Israel's repeated assaults on Syria

​Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, unequivocally condemned the Israeli occupation forces' bombing of the village of Koya in the western countryside of Daraa, southern Syria—an attack that resulted in the martyrdom and injury of innocent civilians. He reaffirmed his absolute rejection of Israel’s continued aggression against Syrian territory, denouncing it as a flagrant violation of Syria’s sovereignty and an opportunistic exploitation of the country’s fragile circumstances to encroach upon its land and foment discord and instability.

​In light of the growing Arab interest in consumer protection issues, the Economic and Social Council, through its Resolution 2366 adopted during the 111th Ordinary Session held on 9 February 2023, approved the establishment of Arab Consumer Protection Week, to be observed annually in March. This regional initiative aligns with World Consumer Rights Day, which has been commemorated globally since its inception in 1983.

​The League of Arab States: A journey of giving and resilience 

The League of Arab States marks its 80th anniversary on 22 March of this year, commemorating eight decades of diplomatic and strategic engagement in the service of the Arab world. Established in 1945, the League of Arab States stands as the world's oldest regional organisation, predating the United Nations. Its founding was a direct response to the growing call for Arab unity, the struggle for liberation from colonial rule, and the pressing political challenges facing the region at the time. From its inception, the League has sought to strengthen ties among member states by harmonising positions and fostering cooperation across various fields.

​The Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, denounced the heinous terrorist attack perpetrated by the Al-Shabaab group on 19 March targeting the convoy of Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud in the capital, Mogadishu.
